Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big sweets person. Candy is my favorite thing ever and if I could, I'd eat it all day. I happened to be married to a guy who loves chocolate more than I do (weird, I know) but when it comes to anything sour or sweet, I am your gal. Sour Patch Kids are my all-time favorite but if there aren't any around, Sprees or Gobstoppers work, too. :)
The Candy Bar at our wedding was one of my favorite things because it wasn't about the day - it was just about the candy. And people LOVED it. :) |
I've always loved baking but haven't done a whole lot of it over the last couple of years with working full-time, getting through my Masters program, etc. But in middle school, my friend Katie McG and I would bake ALL the time - and she was amazing. Her pies would turn out just like they were pictured in the magazine; she was awesome. Lately we've had a lot to celebrate with the end of the year, birthdays, etc. so I've been on a baking adventure. My sister recently introduced me to an AMAZING website, called Pinterest, where people can share creative ideas for just about anything - food/recipes, sewing, kids activities, home design, etc. I've come across some super fun ideas that have been fun to re-create myself so I thought I'd share a couple of them.
COOKIE MONSTER CUPCAKES!
I made these for my students for our last staff meeting and they LOVED them. They were super fun to make. I made the cupcakes, frosted them, covered them with blue sprinkles, and added Cookie Monster! I cut a slice into the cupcakes and put a half a cookie in there for his mouth (or crumbled it up to make his mouth - my favorite). His eyes are made from sliced marshmallows (the hardest part of the whole thing) and chocolate chips, with frosting as the 'glue'. It was easy and so much fun.
ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKES!
Today I made cupcakes in cake cones for a friend's birthday! The cupcakes are chocolate and they are frosted to look just like an ice cream cone. They are also easy and were really fun to make. She LOVED them. :) Here's the play by play...
Last weekend Ty & I made a 5-layer dark chocolate s'mores cake, which was INCREDIBLE. We couldn't believe how well it turned out and neither could the rest of the family. I love cupcakes because they can be shared by many and they're easier to transport but cakes are fun, too. The next thing on my list is a Kit Kat cake for Mikey. Kit Kats are his favorite and the 3-layer chocolate cake looks amazing! I'll let you know how it goes!
